Are you in fear, faith or freeze mode? (part 3 of 3)
I wonder if you’re aware of the importance of deliberately choosing how you think can affect your life? Right now, as we’re transitioning out of lock down and increasing our bubbles, you’ve had the opportunity to be aware of our own thinking more than any other time of your life.
Sure, movies, T.V. and devices are distractions, but we were down to the basics: smaller social connections, a bit of exercise, eating, and our own company. Sometimes, if you’re one of the fortunate, work. So, how did lock down go for you? Most of us have our moments in these extreme situations and some of us don’t cope at all.
If you’ve never thought about how or what you think, what an opportunity you have!
If you take a breath right now and are aware of your own self talk (stuff like “I’m doing all right. ”, or, ”I’d do almost anything for a hug, a good movie/chai latte with chocolate sprinkles/beach walk/joint/punch bag right now. And a hug. Did I mention a hug?”) What's your most current thought?
I bet it comes under one of these three types: fear, freeze or faith. (There’s fantasy as well – but let’s not go there, because it’s really a subset of freeze…) I wrote about fear in the first week, freeze last week, so this week, let’s consider faith.
And faith?
This is where you may not have enjoyed lock down as much as seeing (and hugging!) your friends, travelling and going out, but you have resilience. Another word for faith, if that doesn’t resonate, is hope.
You know you have the basics covered and that this state will pass, that you are who you are, the positive and the human side of you is OK and you’ve sussed what’s of the deepest value to you.
You’re doing something towards your physicality, emotions and mental well-being, your social connections and your spirituality most days. On a good day you feel calm and peaceful. On a bad day you’re angry and frustrated and then you come back to a balance, apologising for the odd meltdown to nearest and dearest, and forgiving yourself and others before moving on.
It’s the thinking you have when you’re connected to something greater outside of yourself, where you’re hopeful and looking forward, while taking time to enjoy the little things you can each day. You know that things will change, and your outlook means you will find the good in that. You have the ability to hope the future is going to be OK and life is both up and down. You consider yourself fortunate in the freedom of mind you have, and abundance – and this isn’t about money.
You have the power to change your thinking – you are 100% able to choose what you think. In fact, without knowing it, your repeated behaviour and the way you live are ways you’re thinking subconsciously. All you do starts with a thought.
Curious to know more on how to change your thinking? And how to have a faith or hope perspective that’s not just about your current circumstances?
