What’s the one thing..?

Have you heard that question before? What’s the One Thing, that if you changed it, would make a significant difference in your life?

For me, it was putting on clothes to go to the gym to make sure I exercised first thing. This is the signal to myself that I will do exercise before I do anything else. Mostly, it works. There are still some days when I get back in my PJ’s having not worn anything else, (blush). But it forces me to think about taking care of my physical as well as my mental social and spiritual self.

James Clear, who wrote ‘Atomic habits – how tiny changes make big results’ writes of how he solved a problem he had taking care of his teeth. He brushed them but wouldn’t floss. For me this is a first world problem, but he worked out he didn’t floss because he disliked that feeling of the floss being tight around his fingers. So, he bought those silly floss sticks and put them right by his toothbrush. Bazinga! He always flosses his teeth now.

These are small examples, but what about you? What’s that thing that’s holding you back from spending more time on more meaningful things. You know the thing your mind most regrets that you’ve not done at the end of the day?

I wonder if you unpacked it, like James did with flossing, what would you put in place to help you do That Thing and not be regretful but grateful for when you get to the end of the day.

What system or systems would you put in place to make those things happen?

Would love to hear from you.
